It Is Not Death To Die

I love this song. Every time it reminds me of the everlasting hope we have in Christ. He is our life, both in this one, and in heaven.

Although the song talks about death  in terms of this life ending, in recently listening to it again, the Holy Spirit was giving me a fresh perspective on how, in Jesus conquering the grave for us, it is not death to die to oneself. In our daily faith struggle to believe the truth of the gospel versus believing the lies of this world, we must constantly allow Jesus to conquer our hearts for today. Our struggle in sanctification often involves a fear that dying to the earthly mindset, lies, and sin with leave us empty. We believe in surrendering ourselves to our Father's plan for our lives, including holiness and righteousness, we will be caught in daily enslavement of obedience, filled with despair and unhappiness. This is the way it will be if we surrender on our own terms, on our own strength, or more precisely, lack of strength. Forsaking sin is not a solo task, and impossible to do.

Oh Jesus, conquering the grave, your precious blood has power to save.
Those who trust in you, will in your mercy find,
That is not death to die.

Dying to our sin is not a sad death. It is instead a joyful one, because when we gain a clear perspective, we understand that the idea that giving up our worldliness and sin will bring unhappiness is a lie. Instead, we realize that true happiness is ONLY found in surrendering ourselves to Christ's victory over death and living in joyful slavery to Christ. Living as Christ, for our Father, by the Holy Spirit, is the most satisfying thing we as Christians can experience in this life. To know that Christ has bought us eternal life in him is the most comforting truth.  It is only by the Holy Spirit's empowering presence that we can die to our old lives and put on the new self (Colossians 3)...

So anyways...it's a bit jumbled thought wise, but it'll have to do right now. ;)
