Vocabulary I'm Learning This Week

Expeditious (ek-spuh-DISH-uhs) - Adjective:
Characterized by or acting with speed and efficiency.
"Congress is characterized by a lack of expeditious decision-making."

Otiose (OH-shee-ohs/OH-tee-ohs) - Adjective:
1. Ineffective; futile.
2. Being at leisure; lazy; indolent; idle.
3. Of no use.
"The computer-nerd realized his efforts to become a famous MLB pitcher were otiose; he went back to World of Warcraft."

Euphonious (yoo-FOH-nee-uhs) - Adjective:
Pleasing or sweet in sound; smooth-sounding
I like this one, because it's easy to remember. The word/definition correlation  is in the root "phon", as in phone, or phonics, and sound.

"Unlike many pianos, whose sharp, pinging notes produce cringes in their listeners, Sarah's euphonious Steinway pleased all."

Plaudit (PLAW-dit) - Noun:
1. A round or demonstration of applause
2. Enthusiastic approval; an expression of praise
"The world around us lives in the dark, seeking the plaudits of men, instead of the glory of God."

Circumlocution (Sir-kuhm-loh-KYOO-shun)- Noun:
The use of many words to express an idea that might be expressed by few; indirect or roundabout language.

Example - Politics. ;)
